Growth, Gratitude, and New Beginnings

Writer's picture: Mahatma PutriMahatma Putri

The legendary Jean-Luc Godard once said, “A story should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, but not necessarily in that order.” Well, my story in Anatman Pictures follows a similar pattern. I remember when…

ACT 1 – My Journey Ends Here

As I write this, I am disheartened because I will not be heading to the office, somewhere in Tanjung Barat, where it is particularly green, cozy, and homey. I take a final, lingering look at the inside of the house, hoping that I’d not forget every inch of the details: The huge Anatman logo, plated and gleamed, greeting me every morning; next to the fingerprint scanner to mark my attendance; the kitchen and wooden table where everyone comes to eat and gossip; the spacious common room, its chandelier above them glistens when turned on at noon; the studios on the second floor that I treated as cozy workplaces I can choose on to work.

It feels like just yesterday, the classic phrase we all repeat, when I entered this house, welcomed by creative and like-minded individuals. But now, as my days are numbered, I realized…

ACT 2 – How Much I Have Grown

Coming with the hope of learning the art of documentary filmmaking, I was excited at the possibility of being involved in the behind-the-scenes of every production stage. Despite my little knowledge about the world I’m in, everyone in Anatman Pictures would show me how it works and let me, as an intern, see the process behind each role. It not only boosted my love and passion for filmmaking but also the possibilities of capturing the world, bagged with the camera lens and stories to tell, for audiences to see.

Then, there’s just a thing about instilling the company value in your daily life, which in Anatman Pictures I have sought to reinforce the habit of being eco-conscious and be mindful about myself and the things around me. From waste management to understanding the carbon footprint of the food we eat, I discovered meaningful ways to contribute to sustainability. Their motto, “Saving the world one video at a time.”, is now a commitment I carry forward.

I am especially grateful for Kak Putri, my supervisor, whose patience and sharp attention to detail never fails to push me to improve. Sometimes I feared that my job wasn’t any good, but having a mentor who not only guided me professionally but also supported me personally is something I deeply appreciate. Not many can find someone who teaches, as some would just preach. However, I respected Kak Putri for taking her time to show me the way, whether it was catching small details in an image or refining the clarity of captions. Her advice, often sprinkled with humor, made learning both enjoyable and meaningful.

To Mas Putra, for his creative and vast knowledge that inspired me to learn more about the creative industry; to Kak Renee, Kak Dita, Mas Panji for their quick-witted insights that sharpened my critical thinking; to Abah who always had long story to share but never fail to miss ‘perfecting’ his works on music; to Mas Ijal, Mas Abrian, Mas Sigit whose camaraderie I find comfortable to share laughter and knowledge about the cinematography (sometimes); to Mas Imam whom I clicked on the first time we talked about scriptwriting, the one who believed and encouraged me to make use of the opportunity to learn and improve my writing skills; to Kak Wina and Kak Nancy, who, despite always on the work, were a joy to talk to—thank you for making my time here unforgettable.

And of course, my fellow interns who were as hardworking and passionate as I am. To Amara, Mas Naufal, Ara, and Erin, who made my internship life so much easier and vibing!

A special thanks to Bu Risma, whose gifted hands prepared meals that fueled our long workdays, and Mas Didi whose readiness to help and unwavering kindness never went unnoticed. Alas, I can’t face myself to say goodbye to Mello–though I would get mostly bark from him, his quirky attitude was oddly comforting. Now, it will be…

ACT 3 – A New Beginning

Even though it’s ending, my journey is far from over. I pitched ideas, organized plans, and executed media posts–all happened because Anatman Pictures allowed me to learn and explore. Now, I am equipped with newfound confidence, armed with a vast amount of knowledge and skills ready to conquer the world!

Thank you Anatman Pictures for the precious three months. I will continue to follow and support your work from afar. Until we meet again—see you at the top!
